Two new heavy duty power harrows launched to cope with high horse power tractors and hard working conditions.
At LAMMA, OPICO is launching two new Maschio power harrows – the ORSO, and the hydraulic folding TORO. Both have been designed to cater for the needs of customers running higher horsepower tractors and with hard stony ground and/or heavy workloads.
OPICO will be exhibiting a new 3m ORSO, and the new 6m wide TORO model alongside the existing best selling Maschio models such as the DM and AQUILA. The ORSO is available in working widths of 3m, 3.5m and 4m and with a crumbler roller, 500mm packer roller or 600mm packer roller.
OPICO’s Maschio product specialist David Day explains: “The ORSO has a heavy duty drive line which has been developed for, and thoroughly tested in, the most arduous conditions. We expect it to be popular amongst farmers in stony areas, such as Scotland.” The drive line in the ORSO consists of a heavier duty main gearbox, higher specification material used throughout drive train, thicker rotor shafts and most importantly barrel-type taper roller bearings which are 30% stronger than standard taper roller bearings.
Mr Day says: “The ORSO has a higher hp rating on its heavy duty main gearbox than most similar sized power harrows. Tractors are getting larger and with higher hp’s and power boost technology, they can provide even higher PTO hp outputs. The ORSO has been designed with this in mind. Whilst some farmers and contractors use wider machines to increase their daily work rates, this doesn’t suit everybody. We have spoken to customers who want to work deeper or faster but still want a 3 or 4m wide machine, because that’s what suits their system. The ORSO provides the solution, and has the reliability to go with it, as even the 3m models can be used with up to 250hp tractors. It comes with a 3 year warranty to prove it.”
Where a wider machine is sought to improve work rates, then the hydraulic folding TORO power harrow provides the answer.
Mr Day explains: “The TORO is simply a hydraulic folding version of the ORSO, and is available in 5m and 6m working widths. Just like its smaller brother the ORSO, the TORO has been designed to work deep in hard and stony conditions. In addition to the heavier drive line and bearings used on the ORSO, the TORO incorporates a 380hp main gearbox, heavier drive shafts and air-cooled wing gearboxes to create a machine that is capable of the deepest hardest work, 24 hours each day. In fact, to demonstrate our confidence in the TORO’s robustness, OPICO is offering a 3-year warranty on its driveline as well.”
Standard features on both the TORO and ORSO power harrows include: Rapido Quick Fit Tines which reduce downtime; stone deflectors which prevent damage; close rotor spacing which enables a finer tilth to be achieved; accessible bearings for ease of maintenance; a double skin trough both for strength and to prevent stone damage; and a wing float facility.
Maschio’s 3m ORSO power harrow and packer roller on display at LAMMA costs £14343 + VAT, and the 6m wide Toro with packer roller costs £40977 + VAT.
