IMPROVES AIR INTERCHANGE THROUGH THE SOIL SURFACE

The new Sward Slitter improves the aeration of plant roots in the upper soil surface and stimulates grass and clover growth. Aeration of the sward root zone is critical for a healthy ley. Slitting allows oxygen interchange through the soil surface and also encourages evaporation of moisture in the surface layer of soil so that it dries out more quickly – this will promote earlier growth in the spring.

Whilst slitting or spiking of grassland is not new, OPICO have taken a fresh look at the design of the Sward Slitter’s points and incorporated a chamfered trailing edge. This limits the turf damage when each knife comes out of the soil, so leaving a better finish.

Chamfered trailing blade edge

New chamfered trailing blade edge prevents turf damage as the blade exits the soil leaving a clean finish. There are 56 blades on the 2.5m machine and 72 blades on the 3.0m machine for maximum effectiveness.

The Sward Slitter has a weight carrying rack so that extra weight can be added to the machine in hard conditions either by disc weights or objects that can be fit into the carry rack.
