"It's a popular little course and evening
racing here attracts quite an exodus from London on Monday nights,"
said Russell who, after seeing a demonstration of the OPICO
grass harrow, made the decision to invest in what he now describes
as a 'useful little tool'.
He went on, "We've now had it for a
couple of seasons and use it to clear the old grass-thatch from
the course in the spring. Basically, it's a set of harrows you
can set as hard or as soft as you like. It combs out the thatch."
The OPICO also comes in particularly useful later in the year
after the Institute of Groundsmanship holds the annual Saltex
Show at the racecourse, attracting thousands of international
visitors." After the show is over we use the OPICO to level
the course so we regard it as a general purpose machine,"
said Russell. "It's been an excellent investment for us
and it's quite a reasonable machine at the price."
